When we talk about horizontal illuminated signs for warehouses, we mean markings drawn on the floor of the logistics area. They are used as a safety measure and a tool for organizing spaces.
People, goods and lifting equipment live together in warehouses, so the risk of accidents is high: horizontal signs reduce risks, for example by helping operators to identify areas with restricted access, those where forklifts work and those intended for preparation and packing the order.
Regulations on horizontal markings in warehouses
In the European Union, the legislation that regulates horizontal marking in warehouses is Directive 92/58/EEC.
According to this regulation, it is up to the employer to place horizontal markings on the floor of the warehouse if there are risks that cannot be avoided by other means of protection. It also requires that employees and their managers are thoroughly trained on the precautions and markings in use so that correct interpretation is possible.
The directive also determines the most effective colors for road markings and emphasizes the need to signal also areas where there is a risk of hitting obstacles and falling objects and people, as well as vehicle movement routes.
Why is horizontal marking important in warehouses?
Horizontal signs in warehouses are a safety measure that warns operators of any risks in a visual, clear and obvious way. It indicates areas where risks may exist, such as hazardous substances or products, but also any emergency exits, areas with obstructions and locations where fire protection systems are located.
There are mainly four reasons that lead to the use of horizontal markings in the warehouse:
- Compliance with the law: non-compliance may result in sanctions and reporting;
- Higher safety, avoiding any risks at work,
- Organization of the space to maintain order and make the warehouse more efficient,
- Reduction of travel with subsequent increase in productivity.
Types of horizontal signs for warehouses
Horizontal signs for warehouses are usually made with special resin-based paints because they are resistant to wear and tear. Alternatively, special anti-slip adhesives resistant to water, extreme temperatures and sunlight are used.
The choice between paint and glue depends on whether the marking will be temporary or permanent: some companies often change the organization of the warehouse and therefore opt for stickers.
When applying traffic signs, it is necessary to pay attention to some factors, such as the temperature, which must be ambient and the condition of the floor, which must be clean and dry.
Clear horizontal signs for warehouses
In some cases, it is impossible to find optimal conditions for installing signs, there are always warehouses with inadequate temperatures and unsuitable floors.
It is in these cases, but not only, that luminous horizontal warehouse markings are the ideal solution.
These are LED lights that project horizontal signals onto the warehouse floor that:
- withstand any temperature,
- they are not afraid of repeated passing of vehicles (over time no adjustments will be necessary as in the case of varnishes),
- are clearly visible in any condition of the floor, even if it is dirty or dusty,
- they are easily remodulable and are therefore also suitable for warehouses that require continuous changes in signage.
There are many warehouses that have already adopted our security tag solutions, with excellent results even in those logistics centers where there are extreme conditions, with temperatures down to -40°C.
Thanks to our solutions, it is possible to project:
- pedestrian walkways and escape routes,
- symbols of different types and colors,
- illuminated signs for walkways and bridge cranes,
- pedestrian crossings,
- safety lighting for forklifts,
- adapted projections for the logistics sector, for example to identify pallet spaces.
